She had been following Lumera Studio’s work for some time before reaching out to us during her stay in Jaffna.
When she contacted us, she shared that she was expecting and wanted to create a maternity portrait session before leaving Sri Lanka. She already had a clear idea of the mood she wanted and sent us a few visual references to help explain the kind of photographs she had imagined.
The timing, however, was tight. Her preferred date fell on a day when our team was already committed to another programme coverage. At the same time, her stay in Jaffna was limited, with her return flight approaching soon.
Rather than turning the session away, Lumera worked around the existing schedule and found a way to make both commitments possible.
We chose the Jaffna seaside for the session, creating a calm and minimal setting where the photographs could focus on the couple, the pregnancy and the anticipation of the new chapter ahead. Small details including the ultrasound photographs, baby shoes and teddy bear became part of the visual story.
The references she shared helped us understand the feeling she wanted, but the goal was never to simply recreate someone else’s photographs. We built the session around the couple, the location and Lumera’s own photographic approach.
Despite the tight schedule, the final photographs came together very close to the vision she had hoped for. More importantly, she left the session genuinely happy with both the photographs and the way the experience had been managed.
She especially appreciated the way Lumera managed the session, introduced fresh ideas and treated the clients throughout the experience.
For Lumera Studio, this maternity session became another reminder that photography is not only about the final frame. Planning, communication, flexibility and the way a client feels throughout the experience matter just as much.
