Visiting Jaffna from Malaysia, Priyaa chose Lumera Studio for a traditional outdoor portrait session inspired by the beauty, culture and atmosphere of Jaffna.
Priyaa, visiting Jaffna from Malaysia, reached out to Lumera Studio after coming across our previous photography work and wanting a portrait experience that felt connected to Jaffna rather than a conventional studio session.
Her idea was simple: a traditional outdoor shoot in the setting of a Hindu temple, with photographs that felt elegant, natural and rooted in Tamil culture.
The session was built around that atmosphere. Her black saree with traditional gold detailing, green blouse and floral styling worked beautifully against the character of the temple surroundings, allowing the portraits to feel both refined and culturally familiar.
Rather than over-directing every frame, we focused on expressions, movement and natural moments. The goal was to create photographs that felt polished while still preserving Priyaa’s personality and the experience of being back in Jaffna.
For us, portrait photography is not only about creating a beautiful image. The location, clothing, mood and personal connection to a place can all become part of the story.
This session became a celebration of traditional Tamil portrait photography in Jaffna - combining heritage, personal style and a location that carried meaning beyond the photographs themselves.
